HAMLETS
Welcome to Beattie's Corner
Beatty (Beattie's Corner))
The original hamlet was called Beattie’s Corners as it was located at the intersection of Lavant Road and Cruse Road- now spelled Cruise Road. The name was derived from the name of the first teacher at the S.S.#3 Palmerston School. Mr. Beattie owned property east of the school on Lavant Road.
S.S. # 3 Palmerston School
The school was built in that location to accommodate the many families who farmed in the area. There was no well at the school, so the older boys would walk to McKinnon’s to get a pail of water for the day. The bell from the school was purchased by Garnet Sproule who in turn placed it on the Ompah Fire Hall. Garnet attended S.S.#3 school and also did the caretaking. Even though the school was sold and is now a private residence, locals continue to refer to it as Beattie’s School. The one residence across the road from the school was owned by the Thomas family.
