Launch of Virtual Tour for CMCA
Clarendon Miller Community Archives and the Community Foundation for Kingston Area are pleased announced the launch of the website version of their latest book- Historic Tours of North Frontenac. The website version highlights the first historic signs that will be installed this spring throughout the Township and provides a sample page from the book for each hamlet. If you are participating in the History Mystery Tour for Sat. May 5th you should check your answers to the history clues by visiting https://cmcabook2017.wixsite.com/nfhistorictour All readers are asked to support CMCA by visiting the website as often as possible in the next two weeks as the numbers will be included in the grant report to be submitted in May.
Bus Tour - July 24, 2018
CMCA enjoyed a guided bus tour of the historic sites, based on their Historic Tour Book. They had a wonderful lunch at the Snow Road Community Hall.
History Mystery Tour - May 5, 2018
CMCA's “Mystery History Tour” was based on our latest book, Historic Tours of North Frontenac. This book was made possible with a grant from the Community Foundation for Kingston & Area and a sponsorship by North Frontenac Township. People received a K&P ticket at the door that served as their passport as they travelled around from “hamlet to hamlet.” Many great door prizes were awarded, including a Grand Prize Package worth over $1200!
Note: CMCA is researching and documenting historic barns in a register. People are invited to let us know if they have a barn on site or photos from early days.

Clarendon Miller Community Archives wins Provincial Award for Excellence - 2017
On Sat. June 23, CMCA Co-ordinator Brenda Martin, member Sheryl Weber and Mayor Ron Higgins travelled to the Japanese International Centre in Toronto to accept the Dorothy Duncan Ontario Historical Society award. This award recognizes a not-for-profit organization which has demonstrated an outstanding level of service to its region.
The year 2017 was a very productive year for conserving local history for future generations as the Clarendon & Miller Community Archives motto declares. The Committee worked diligently to produce three books- Lodges: Past and Present in North Frontenac, Memories of General Stores in North Frontenac and Historic Tours of North Frontenac. A Virtual Tour component was later launched to complement the Tourbook. The CMCA also designed ten historic signs that were installed throughout the Township to mark historic sites. Visual exhibits were expanded with the Remembrance Day one being highly praised by the community. The Township of North Frontenac has provided ongoing support to CMCA; in 2017 they provided space to store CMCA display materials, granted some funding toward both historic signs and a community event to celebrate Lodges and Housekeeping Cottages. The nomination by the Township was a great honour; to be recognized by the Ontario Historical Society with the Dorothy Duncan Award was far beyond CMCA expectations.
CMCA Open House - August 30, 2017
Clarendon & Miller Community Archives presented “Historic Tours of North Frontenac” funded by the Community Foundation for Kingston and the Township of North Frontenac at their open house at the Plevna Library. There were baked goods, lots of visiting, and some great raffle prizes.
Lodges: Past and Present - May 6, 2017
Clarendon & Miller Community Archives (CMCA) shared and commemorated their year-long research covering the topic of Lodges: Past and Present by hosting an event at the Clar-Mill Hall in Plevna, CMCA. They transformed the Hall into a Lodge-like setting, allowing for an interactive format. Guest speaker and well-known country entertainer, Neville Wells, provided his personal experiences of growing up at his family-owned Mosque Lake Lodge; he also performed a few songs on his guitar. Visitors browsed the many photo boards and researched documents of North Frontenac Lodges and Housekeeping Cottages. A panel of lodge owners/workers shared their expertise and engaged in a lively discussion with the audience.
10th Anniversary Celebration on Stores - May 14, 2016
Clarendon Miller Community Archives celebrated its 10th Anniversary at the Clar-Mill Hall by bringing back memories of local general stores. Guest speaker, Mary Cook, provided a historical perspective; a panel of local store owners/operators/employees described their experiences; and displays brought back memories of the local stores in North Frontenac Township.
